ANGELA, 21 ÅR

Buenos Aires, February 20th, 2023 Dear future Host Family, Hello! My name is Angela Quintero🤗, I am 20 years old, and I am a writer of fantasy novels. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina with my parents, Marisol and Angel, who are chefs, my brother, Miguel, who is a nutritionist, and my twin sister, Chiqui, who studies programming, however, I was born in Merida, Venezuela, a city surrounded by mountains and very quiet, with many landscapes of unique beauty and warm people. I have had the joy of growing up in a very close-knit, loving and fun family, where we cultivate respect, trust and communication. One of the things I enjoy most about my family, besides always supporting each other, is sharing with them anecdotes and funny talks while cooking our favorite Venezuelan dishes, such as hallacas or pabellon criollo, as well as going for a walk in the evenings, having a movie night, going for an ice cream or playing a friendly (but very competitive) game of volleyball full of laughter and fun. Living in Buenos Aires has given me the opportunity to meet many people from different provinces and interact in places that are new to me. I have learned to socialize very easily with people with a different culture than mine, which has helped me to mature and grow as a person. In my daily routine I am organized, decisive and dynamic. I also love to do activities such as painting, biking, writing (I love writing), trying new recipes, studying Korean, and more; I am very active and like to be learning new things all the time. I also enjoy getting involved in social activities, so I have been volunteering in social work such as feeding the elderly and children at the long-stay hospital in my city and entertaining them happily with my music, as I have been playing the cuatro since I was 9 years old. In addition, I like to discover new cultures and learn more about their languages and traditions, therefore, I also learned Korean since in the future I would like to study in Seoul where English is also used as a language of instruction. As for my experience with children, I have been a leisure and free time monitor in summer camps and youth gatherings every spring (May) since 2012, and I was part of the honor brigade of civil protection for three years (2017-2019), teaching children from my school how to act in case of emergencies and natural disasters. I also participated as a guide in school camps leading groups of teenagers (14-16 year olds) through the mountains and teaching them how to live together as a team, although my main role was also to be like a 'mother' to the kids for two whole weeks by being responsible for their safety. We do many activities, such as arts and crafts, exercise and jogging, cooking, seminars, games and, most importantly, we teach them values such as responsibility, respect for others and nature, sharing, gratitude and love. As a babysitter, I have worked with children from 2 to 15 years old, Monday through Friday, and I also had the experience of working as a substitute for 4 weeks (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at a music kindergarten called Sonata, where the children were separated by age groups. Currently, I take care of a little girl named Riley, who just turned three and also has a high energy level, so I always need to be creative when it comes to creating games. I am in charge of getting her ready for school, taking her to and from school, and bringing her home. Also, besides making her lunch, telling her Disney stories with her stuffed animals (Ranpuzel is her favorite), or playing "restaurant", I am also very happy to help her with learning activities like coloring, Spanish syllables and English vocabulary, which she enjoys a lot; mostly I am in charge of planning psychomotor games for her; we play with different balls (soccer, basketball, tennis ball...) and sometimes we go to the pool for an hour (due to the summer heat). Another thing she likes a lot is that we bake cookies with fruits and oatmeal or a cake to surprise her mom, Mrs. Vanessa, when she comes home from work. I also take care of a sweet 14 year old teenager, Isabella, who is a sophomore in high school. She has a very open personality, so during the time I take care of her I teach her English and help her with her school activities, such as practicing math exercises, and, depending on the weather, we go jogging or biking. In addition, I have also taught math classes for children in my school. Also, I know how to drive since 2019, so I could be a great fit if I had to take the kids wherever they need to go. Finally, the reason I decided to do this program is the pleasure of doing an adventure in another country in a familiar environment, which I value greatly. I am very excited about this opportunity, I know that living with your children and with you, immersed in such a nice culture as the USA, will greatly improve my English and I will learn a lot! Also, being your Au Pair, I will not only be there to help you with the care of the little ones and their protection, but I will also love to be part of your family and help you in any situation in which you need me... you can always count on my support!
