Dear Au pair,
We are a family of 5 persons, two parents and 3 children. Our children are two girls, age 4 and 8, and a 15 year old boy. We are very outdooring people but we also love to stay at home as a close family. The boy is very self-sufficient and has learned to help a lot with the house hold and babysitting. The girls are also very manageable, the older one has a strong will and is energized but the little one is easy going and sweet preschool child. We empathize on giving our children the best childhood experience available and them to evolve as individuals. Part of that is to employ them with a secure and relaxed environment and to support them to be self-sufficient and follow their dreams.
Our preference is to have a German speaking person as the husband´s origin is Germany, but he moved to Iceland 13 years ago. Therefore we would like our children to learn more German. We live in Reykjavík, very close to the sea, and only 15 minutes from city centre. There are good public transportations in our neighbourhood but it is preferable that a suitable candidate possess a driving licence.
The husband is a professional photographer that works as a workshop leader and a guide on photo tours. He stays a lot away from home, a week or some weeks at the time. The wife works as a guide, teacher and a captain. She works flexible jobs and sometimes has long days and occasionally a tour for a few days. It is therefore important to have a caretaker at home that can take full responsibility and care of the children. The caretaker would have to be ready to work flexible shifts, some days with little work or no work and some days a full 8-12 hours shift, with some breaks in-between. A schedule will be put down in a good advance and in co-operation with the caretaker.
Our hope is to have a kind and a responsible person that could imagine to live with us for a year and be a part of our family. To be interested and share some of our activities and hobbies might be a good step to be an integral part of the family life. Most important though is that the person is honest and reliant and willing to integrate into a lively family live of ours.
