Dear host family,

My name is Kewalee Sukkaew. I am 24 years old from Thailand. I am applicant with official childcare experience from a daycare at Banyan Tree hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. I work as a teacher assistant there, asides from running my e-commerce business. I’m genuinely fond of children and enjoy every single bit of my job at the daycare. I am highly adaptive and able to assimilate into new culture well. I have experience living in the US for 3 months on Work and Travel program. It was one of the most challenging times of my life, and this experience urged me to seek for some more challenges and Au Pairing gives me just that because with this cultural exchange program I will get to explore new countries and culture in Europe at the same time working with children.

I am lucky to be raised by supportive and understanding parents. Our family is a typical loving and caring family from the south of Thailand, Nakhonrithammarat province. Our family consists of 4 members; my father, my mother, my older sister and me. I live with my mother and sister in Bangkok and my dad lives in Nakhonsithammarat. He is a plants lover so he grows many kinds of plants at home. Though our family doesn’t live together but we always find occasions to spend quality time together as much as possible.

I’m holding a bachelor degree in Information Technology from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Bangkok. I studied this program because I was aware of the importance role of technology in this generation. I usual adopt the knowledge I’d learned at the University to my e-commerce business - online shop; I am selling caps and bags.

Personality: Apart from being positive and a hard-worker, I can say that I am a fast learner, good at solving problem, adaptive, compassionate and have a growth mindset. In the year 2015, I worked in a restaurant in the US and gained valuable work experience and coordinating skill with foreign co-workers. The job helped me understand and become open-minded to different culture. It taught me to become more patient, independent and braver. I got to work in international environment and learned how to cope with problems and critical situations I encountered at the workplace. Solo traveling to countries like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea boosted my confidence in my own ability to tackle problems and obstacles.
When I am alone overseas I keep in touch with my family and friends via video calls or on social media. Distance cannot really take us apart, thanks today technology, communication became much easier, however, as an Au Pair, I would prefer to explore my host country, local culture and meet new people as much as possible, because that’s why I am there for. I like being adventurous so if I have a chance I would love to try Skiing once in a life time.

I can say that one of the actives I have real passion for is cheerleading; I had done it since I was in Secondary school and continued until I graduated from University. I participated in many different competitions. For today, I’m taking a dancing class in order to keep my dancing skill. Anyway, there are some other hobbies I enjoy too, like photography, arts, cooking, sports, traveling, meditation and swimming. For other interest, I can say child psychology and business.


Concerning childcare experience; I gained 300 hours of childcare experience from working at Banyan Tree Childcare Centre at Banyan Tree Hotel, there apart from taking care of their wellbeing, I also usually arranged creative activities for children to develop their learning skills for example; music, dancing, arts, games. I love to stimulate them to think, to observe, to consider and to decide by themselves. I believe this is promoting maturity level of children. This experience made me understand child psychology, behavior of children of different ages, and proper parenting techniques. In the situation that kids are out of control, I usually stay calm and patient. I make eye contact before communicate with them, telling them reason why they should listen to me and why it’s important to stop bad behavior. Personally I believe kids are good by nature, it is just exterior stimuli that make them misbehave or out of control, and we, as an adult must understand that before coping with the situation.

What I believe is most important about being an Au Pair is that I’ve got a nice family that I can share a great cultural exchange experience with in Europe. I don't expect much as I am ready to adapt and learn, but what my host family can expect from me is a fun, caring, honest who they can fully rely on to take care of their children. As an Au Pair, I am willing to perform housework as I had done all already in the US. It was very hard job in the restaurant but I went through it just fine. Also I will adjust myself to get along with children of my host family. I want to have a good relationship with them and create such memorable moments with everyone.

I want to become an Au Pair because this cultural exchange program gives an opportunity for young people to expand their cultural horizon and perspective towards the world. It provides the best way to learn new culture; by living with a local family, the way to understand and improve oneself as well as pave the better future for us after the program.

After the program, I would like to pursue higher education abroad specializing in children development so that I can use new knowledge and experiences I’ve gain to improve living condition for Thai children. I have a dream to work in the Department of children and Youth, that belongs to Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
