TIARA, 29 YEARS

I hope you guys are doing great. I am Tiara and I am a Filipino who's currently teaching here in the United States under a cultural exchange program too. I am a Special Education Teacher here handling kids from 1st to 5th Grade. As a Special Educator located in a reservation and in a rural community during these uncertain times, my roles are not just limited with teaching, we provide transportation for students to school, we are out and about to send some assignments or work packets to students who chose to work remotely, I think somewhat similar to an itinerant teacher though just between the community. I also prepare snacks and assist kids with their personal needs.

When I was in the Philippines, I handled kids under the early intervention program, the youngest I had was an 11-month-old with cleft palate and the oldest I had was an 15-year old with autism mainstreaming in a general education setting. Also, while I was in college, I was lived in Japan for 3 months for my student internship and that was one of my most memorable experience as a student because I get to experience a new culture. Being away from my home country made me realize how big the world is and made me understand culture diversity more.

I am outgoing, diligent, patient and a person who loves to be out of her comfort zone. I love challenging things that build my character as a person. Though there are days that I can just stay at home, chill and just making myself productive with some household stuff. I enjoy cooking, trying out different cuisines and traveling.

Why I want to try out to be an Au Pair for the reasons of wanting to try out something challenging and to develop my character as person. It excites me every time I am in a new place, to meet new people, get to know culture and just simply immerse myself in a new environment.

I embrace every differences of child and every student that I have. I see them as a piece of art that comes in different colors, shapes, textures, in different contrasts and highlights. However, regardless of that they are still consider an art that is beautiful in their own ways. I believe that it is important for children to have an environment where they are well taken care of, aside from meeting their physical needs. And I believe that I can be contributing factor for their growth. From my experience as an educator, I learned that teaching is not just getting the academic standards met but molding the child holistically, that includes their social and emotional development that will help them success better throughout their lifetimes.
