KENYAN AU PAIR SEARCHING FOR A FAMILY
I'm 27 year old kenyan au pair who is looking for work. I have over 5 years experience. I am speaking english, very little basic Italian and am currently learning German beginner level. I describe myself as a friendly, honest, loyal and faithful person. Also a sense of responsibility is very important for me. I’m a helpful person, who is smiley very often.

My experience in taking care of kids is more of a tradition that we go through in my family especially in the case where a younger sibling in the family is involved, its always a required responsibility to be the second caregiver of the young siblings as an older sister. My experience came more in handy when my uncle had his firstborn child and his wife didn't have anyone to help her, during that time I was in high school at around 15years of age and my holiday so I took the responsibility of helping her. After my high school, before I joined my university, my little sister was 3years old and I took care of her for almost one year. Later on as I joined college my sister had her three kids, which I took part in baby sitting them during my long holidays. Latest experience was last year when I lost my job due to covid-19, my aunt requested me take care of her 4year old baby girl for a period of 6months before she got a new nanny, Later on in November my cousin also requested me to stay with his three young boys aged
3, 5, and 6.

My interaction with children is always from a genuine affection and I love children and enjoy spending time with them. I am prepared and I am well aware of the fact that being like a big sister children comes along with responsibilities and sometimes it will not always be just play and fun. My calm and patient personality will help me to master more difficult situations for instance when the kids are tired or don’t want to listen to me.

My family is beautiful and complex in that I have two sisters from my mum side and two brothers and three sisters from my dad side.
In short my mum and dad are not living together but have other partners in their lives which they have found love and happiness with.
My dad works in giving HR outsourcing services while my own is a small business owner as her way of living.

My level of education is at the University level, I have a second class honors degree in Bachelor's of Purchasing and supplies management that I took at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology here in Nairobi-Kenya and graduated in 2016, The job market penetration in Kenya has been a bit of hurdle but I have worked under short contracts in some companies which I have gained experience which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge I have mostly in Procurement and stores management. I also took a short course offered by the United Nations Education program on Children and Climate change, I used this opportunity to get a better understanding on the challenges children face around the world and how climate change affects them and how we can combat the challenges.

I like giving back to the society and for me it always gives me a sense of purpose in life and fulfillment in serving the society, currently am volunteering with girl up community an organization centered in mentoring young girls in Africa between the ages of 12-22 as they transition into adult hood, we focus mainly on menstrual hygiene, mental health awareness, women in sports and gender equality.

I have never been broad far away from my home country for long time but I am used to not seeing either my dad or my mom for many months so I don’t think I will become particular home sick. Living with me is really easy as I am not a demanding person. I always respect the house rules of any household I live in, If something works not quite as it should, I prefer to talk instead of ignoring things.
Am also willing to share the travel costs with my host family in case there will be a need.

I am really curious to hear all about you and your children. I hope you like my letter and I can’t wait to hear back from you.

Thank you for reading my letter and kind regards,
Jamila
