APRIL CHRISTINE, 26 YEARS

To my dearest future Host Family, Hello, there! I hope this letter of mine finds you in the best of your health and spirit as you received this message. I am very pleased for writing you this cordial letter. But first and foremost, I would like to introduce myself and let you know a little about me. My name is April, 23 years old from Cebu Philippines. I obtained a degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English last year. During my practice teaching in college, I was assigned as an English teacher in Junior High School and Senior High School. I enjoy interacting with children of all ages and have experience caring and teaching for children. I consider myself as very caring, sweet and independent person who works with initiative and attention to detail. I am capable of multitasking and am extremely adaptable. I can easily adapt to new situations. I got a big happy family. There are twelve people including me, my parents, my five brothers and my four sisters. I am the third child and the eldest daughter in our family. Growing up with a big family was so much fun! We always got each other’s back. There is so much love in our house. I am very proud to be a part of such a loving and caring family. Talking about my child care experiences, I have helped my parents look after my younger brothers and sisters since they were a little. With many siblings comes with great responsibilities. At an early age, I took good care of my 10 month old younger sister when I was in high school. Furthermore, when I stop schooling from college for one semester, my mom gave birth to our youngest brother. After my mother gave birth, she decided to get back to work to continually provide our everyday needs. Since I was left at home, I was the one took in charge in taking care of my brother while my parents were not around. To top it off, I have had quite an adventurous life. I became the “pseudo-parent” of the house looking after the little ones. When my younger siblings grow up to be actually pretty cool, I feel proud because I’m one of those people who helped shape them. I’ve set an example, raised the bar, and gave them advice that they actually valued, tried to force my interests upon them (and sometimes even succeeded). Indeed, taking care of my younger siblings was a wonderful experience that I could never forget. It turned me into a person with pretty strong leadership skills and a strong sense of responsibility. It helped me become a more caring person. That is the best part of being the eldest sister. In connection with this, I want to become an au pair because I love working with children. I want to help raise and educate children as their older sister. I want to be a good big sister to my future host siblings by supporting them, doing kind things for them, and setting a good example for them to look up to and follow. Also, it’s not only about traveling abroad but to collect experiences and embark a new life and adventure. I just realized that there is much to see and there is much to do while living in this amazing world and becoming an au pair will help me discover myself even more and become more mature and independent. In addition, I want to learn other people’s culture and language and foster lasting friendships. In return, I want to share my Filipino culture with my future host family too!
