ENGLISH TEACHER LOOKING FOR A WELCOMING HOSTFAMILY
Mabuhay, future host family!
Mabuhay is a greeting that is commonly used in my country which means “to live!” Or “long live!” I usually put the “!” exclamation for some emphasis.
Let me introduce myself properly. My name is Mary Quisha Danielle Martin, long name I know.... but it is pretty common here in my country. The people around me call me “Quisha” which means to have a beautiful mind. I am 22 years of age and I have recently gotten my teaching degree in English last year on May 2020. Teaching has been a passion of mine and both my mother and paternal grandmother are English teachers so I guess it runs in our blood. I have started working as an online ESL teacher when I was 18 and I will be celebrating 4 years in this industry this coming May 2021. I belong to quite a big family with 2 sisters who I both have a 1 year gap with (I’m the middle child) and a younger brother. My mom and dad, Eva and Ignatius are both proud business owners of a photostudio in my humble city of Ormoc. It’s named MiQuiCar which stands for the first syllable of me and my sisters’ names.
During my free time, I read a lot of novels. I can easily finish a 400 page book in a span of 5 hours! I feel bad for my eyes just by saying that but I just really enjoy reading. I also bake with my mom and a specialty of mine is banoffee pie! I sold a lot of boxes for this Christmas! So I’m guessing a lot of people loved it. Most were repeat customers.
I admit, I was pretty outgoing in my younger years. I enjoyed going out a lot but ever since I started working, I have lost touch with the real world and it saddens me very much that I am wasting away my life earning money when I could do something so much more productive! And that is traveling. I have some savings but I plan on saving more.
One of my lifelong dreams is to be able to go backpacking around Europe. Europe is just so much different than Asia. I want to experience a country that has a very different culture than mine so that I can widen my thinking about other people. I have talked to a lot of Europeans online and it still boggles my mind how everything is so different there. That’s why I want to experience first hand. Not just over the internet so that I can fully connect with these people.
My country has a few foreigners but you can rarely see one in my city so you can say I’m really curious about meeting and befriending one!
I really hope that a host family is willing to welcome me because I genuinely am so passionate about this. I want to satisfy my curiosity by making my dream into a reality. Also, I believe I have all the qualities of a good candidate. I always make sure that I show how grateful I am with everything that has been given to me. I want to make people feel that I am thankful for the help they have extended towards me and I know this is also a really nice feeling for host families to be acknowledged.
I have spent over a year researching on the rules and regulations, that dos and the don’ts of an Au Pair and I admit that I am quite knowledgeable about this topic. What I know is as an Au Pair, we’re required to help the family with light house chores and focus our help mainly on the children. It’s like being a big sister!
I also want to share my knowledge with the English language. I have a lot of experience in teaching and I am really quick when it comes to topics. You will get tired of talking to me because I can talk nonstop unless you ask me to stop of course. I will make sure that the English learning will be as fun as possible! You will not even notice that you are actually learning! Not to mention, I also am a qualified TEFL and TESOL teacher.
I hope this letter is enough to convince you that I deserve this experience too. I hope that I get to meet your family soon. Thank you very much for reading and warm regards to your family.
