MYRNA, 28 YEARS

My name is Myrna. I am a 22 year-old (female) Filipino citizen. I come from Valencia Negros Oriental, a small town with approximately 35,000 inhabitants and is situated on the foot of Mt Talinis.

I come from a family of 5: My parents are Juanito and Mary Ann. My father works as a labourer while my mother is a house-keeper who also spends her time planting fruit bearing and ornamental plants. I am the middle child and a sister to one female older sibling and one younger brother. I’ve had the opportunity to work as a Caregiver/Caretaker to the elderly in the province’s capital city, Dumaguete and have had the opportunity to apply the caregiving training I’ve acquired, consequently allowing me to learn greatly regarding elderly care and household management. I know just what it entails to look after the elderly employing compassion, understanding and patience. Since I have a younger brother, my training in providing care to children and adults started at a very early age. I chose to take this further when I obtained certification as a Caregiver in 2016 and have worked in this capacity ever since.
In about a year or two I plan to continue my college education, but I am yet to make up my mind concerning my future area of specialization. So, at the moment, I would like to take some time out of academics to have a different life experience, and to have time to calmly reflect on my future academic/professional orientation. To this end, I think spending another year abroad would be particularly interesting.

My first language is, of course, Tagalog, and I am also fluent in English. I started learning English in primary school, and it was also the language of instruction in the secondary school I attended.
I am nevertheless aware that learning a language within a classroom context is by itself, incomplete. So, in order to really be at ease in English, I feel that a cultural immersion would do me a lot of good. Hence I have a strong desire to have first-hand experience of European life. I am particularly interested in experiencing family life in Germany, since it offers a cultural context that is undoubtedly different from mine. For this reason, I would very much like to find a nice family to live with and work for in Germany.

I have helped my parents look after my brother since birth. I assumed the role of babysitting him until he was roughly two years old and was much involved in caring for him on a daily basis.
When it comes to leisure, I enjoy in the simple things in life. I enjoy reading books, being with my friends and visiting places I have not been to.
As far as preferences are concerned, I am looking for a live-in arrangement with a host family that would be happy to have me stay with and work for them for at least 6 months to maximum of 2 years. I am comfortable looking after children between the ages of 3 months to 10 years and the elderly as well. While I am not too keen on leisure time, just a few hours a week would be nice to just take a stroll and stretch in the great outdoors.
