JUNE, 23 YEARS

Hello, I'm June Erlyn Centillas, 23 years old, turning 24 on June 21. I currently reside in the Philippines, specifically in Davao Oriental. I'm a 2nd-year Nursing undergraduate; unfortunately, I couldn't complete my studies due to financial constraints. Raised by my grandmother, who couldn't afford my college education, I started working in a BPO company at the age of 18 to support my schooling, bills, and provide an allowance for my grandmother. My father passed away when I was 15, and my mother, who left me when I was 3 months old, has her own family now. She hasn't supported me or my grandmother, and we haven't heard from her in years. In 2012, she briefly returned, leaving her two kids with my grandmother again. Working since the age of 15 was challenging; I had to sell thrift clothes, candies, and more. I experienced not having enough for basic needs, using tablecloths as makeshift tampons/pads, and walking from home to school. Despite the hardships, these experiences shaped who I am today. After finishing high school, I worked as a customer service representative at AT&T, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the US. Despite not having a complete and happy family, I consider myself very family-oriented and genuine. I find joy in seeing people happy and achieving their dreams, which motivates me to strive for success. During my leisure time, I enjoy reading books and novels. As a daydreamer, reading takes me to places I've never been and enhances my vocabulary. Although Nursing wasn't my initial choice, it seemed like the pathway to a better life abroad. Now that I'm on my own, I want to explore and step outside my comfort zone. Growing up on an island, I find peace in not surfing but hope for better days ahead.
