Dear Host Family, Hello!


My name is Iryn Kinya japheth. I am 24 years old and I live in Nairobi the capital city of Kenya. I live here with my parents and siblings. My family consists of 5 members: my mother, my father, my brother Evans kimathi 20yrs who is studying marketing at the university, my sister Scholastica kendi 15yrs, my brother Trevor Mark-4years and me. Sometimes we argue but usually we all get on well and we help each other. Both my parents are employed.My mother owns a small shop. My father is a businessman/Farmer I have a wonderful relationship with them: both are excellent parents and I had a wonderful childhood and adolescence also thanks to them. My family support my choice of being an au pairand they think this would be a great experience and a way for me to be independent.

Speaking of family, I have 21 first cousins, which inturn have children, so I've always been used to having kids around.

So what am I like? Well, I always try to be friendly and helpful to other people and I grew up with very important values. For instance I know that education is the main thing, but also kindness and respect. I'm a flexible, polite and humorous girl. I am a creative and ambitious young woman because I have a lot of ideas about my future. I have a lot of hobbies and interests: I have intrest in teaching Ive been studying teaching in college. During my free time I go for dancing lessons and I also helped my teacher with the younger dancers, teaching them the choreography and helping them with the steps. I also love swimming. In addition to this, I love reading all kind of books and spending my time in the library. Moreover I like playing hockey, listening to the music and watching soccer (my family is a fanatic of soccer and all sports in general!!) Another thing I love doing is cooking. My mother taught me how to cook a delicious Kenyan dishes and I often help with cooking for my younger siblings or when we have relatives and friends visiting. I like singing karaoke, even though I'm not very good and I'm out of tune. In my spare time I like hanging out with my friends, going to the cinema (I love watching films), going for a walk at the local park, watching tv-series in their original language (in general english) or going to the mall.


When it comes to childcare experience, I've been studying teaching in college. Teaching involves spending time with children and taking care of them. During my studies, I interacted with children and helped me learn alot. I learned that Some babies are born quiet and watchful while others are hypersensitive. Some have strong social needs, and others are wary of all new faces. There is not a “correct” temperament. This made me more responsible and to be responsive to a child is the single most critical element of quality caregiving. I have also been taking care of my little cousins Anne Njeri 1year and Brian kamau 2years. My roles were to feed them, bathe, cook and play with them. I have also been taking care of a little kids, Rose wambua 6months and Mark Maina I year, for 2 years. I also did voluntary work in a secondary school where I helped children (from 10 to 14 years old) doing their homework and studying. The reason why I would love to be an au pair is, First of all, obviously I want to be an au pair because I can deal with kids and I love them a lot. Secondly since knowing a new culture, meeting new people and living in a family as a new member. In addition to this, I believe that this is a big chance for me.I'm sure that if you choose me as your new au pair then we will have a great time together!


My future plan at the university is to study nursing/paediatrician and being an aupiar will really enhance my knowledge on how children should be handled.
