SHANE, 30 ÅR

Dear Host Family,
Hello, good day! First, I want to thank you for taking time to read my letter.

My name is Shane Marie, and I am 24 years old. I am currently living alone in Makati, Philippines but my hometown is in the Province of Pangasinan.

My family consists of four people: my parents, my older brother and me. My mom is a business woman while my dad is a retired soldier. They are living together in our hometown. Some of the weekends, I go home to visit them. Sometimes, they are the ones who visit me. My older brother works in the HR Department of a company. I haven’t seen him quite long now due to our busy schedules. They all support my decision in becoming an au pair in Europe.

About me, I describe myself as a very active and bubbly person. I am an independent woman who’s looking for some exciting and challenging experiences to share with other people. Being the youngest in the family, I’ve always wanted to become a big sister, and that pushed me to become a teacher. I believe that being a big sister is not only about taking care of them but also providing them knowledge they need.
I love outdoor activities so much such as playing sports, walking, swimming, and sometimes running. I engage myself more on physical activities. During downtime, I also read some books, and watch movies (occasionally). And, I love cooking, particularly Filipino foods.

At this moment, I work in a construction company as part of the administrative department. During the weekends, I tutor few students in Mathematics and English. I am trying to save money to enrol and get my TEFL or TESOL certificate for me to quality to teach English abroad.

I was once away from my family for two years when I studied in the United States. That is where I learned about the au pair program. I was chatting with one of my schoolmate who was that time an au pair in Norway. Then, I did my research and fell in love with the program and the experience it can provide.

Now, here is why I want to become an Au Pair in a European country. First of all is because I love children and I like dealing with them. Second, it was my dream to set foot in Europe, learn different culture, meeting new people, and being part of a family where I can share my culture as well. Lastly, I believe it is a big chance for me to achieve one of my goals in life and that is to become a multilingual individual who will travel the world and share to the people what I’ve learned in my journey. I want to be able to communicate to everyone and understand them.

I hope this letter has given you an idea about me. I hope you like it. I can’t wait to hear back from you about your family. I will do my best to fulfil the responsibility of an au pair.
