WUCHIRAI, 26 JAHRE

My name in Wuchirai Olgar Mukundwa and I turned 20 years in April 22, 2018. I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and still living in the beautiful city. I come from a family of four, two sisters and one brother.
I have always had a desire to learn a new language and culture. I believe language and culture can shape a person’s personality and enhance their world view. I have always been fascinated by Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, Finland and Norway and will cherish an opportunity to learn their language and to live among their people. Same with countries such as Austria, Germany, Australia, Canada and France. For me, the Au Pair program will give me an excellent break to learn a new language, establish a relationship with a new family, learn about a new culture, discover myself, and see the world. I need to use this break to evaluate my future career so that on completion of the Au Pair program, I can continue with my university education.

I have also been good with kids, I love my sister’s baby boy and spend a lot of time playing with him. In 2016, I applied to work on part-time basis at Busy Bee Pre-school and Nursery as a Teacher Playgroup leader, and for the next six months, I had fun with babies aged between one to six years. I received a certificate in Basic Playground Management. It was one of the great moments of my life after the death of my mum. As part of working with kids, I enrolled for Home Nursing program offered by the St. John Ambulance Association in Harare and passed with Honours. I have also worked part-time in Cafeteria, the famous Brazilian Chop Chop Restaurant in Harare. I believe these experiences will enhance my Au Pair experience.

I have been described as dynamic and dependable, adaptable and flexible. I can also say that I am patient and determined, hardworking and self-motivated. I like team work but can also work independently. I am normally shy to people especially if I am meeting them for the first time, but after trust is developed, I will be freer and talk openly. I can be also sensitive when interacting with new people. Sometimes I miss motherly love and can feel lonely and a hug will be great.
My first language is Shona, this is native to Zimbabweans and sometimes it can spillover to English during conversations. I am also fluent in English since it is the medium of instruction in school and I have also passed English language in High School. I believe the Au Pair program will allow me to learn a new language and the cultural immersion with my host family and the community will complement the learning experience. In terms of hobbies, I like playing volleyball, participating in athletics, reading – various books on personal development, listening to music – sometimes I find peace and expression in some of the music I listen to, I am not very good at cooking, but I would like to learn, I am good in housework, laundry and general cleaning. I like outdoor activities, family picnics, travel and arts.

It is my hope that I can meet my host family expectations, but I am also aware that there is a lot for me to learn and discover. For the Au Pair program, my enduring motivation is to learn something new every day, be part of the family and participating in family activities, learn a new language and culture, discover myself, build meaningful relationship and adapting to the new environment. I will be more than happy to speak with you and to answer any question you may have about me, to learn more about your family, and to know more about what you expect from me during my stay with your family during the Au Pair period.
