To My Future Host Family

My name is Mary Joy Segovia, 29 years old, single, no child, Filipino Citizen, originally from Philippines but currently working here in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates as Nanny, I took up Bachelor of Science in Information Management as my Degree, Major In Airline Operation Management, Had my on the job training at Civil Aeronautics Board and Philippine Airlines, and it was a great experience, to be around with great and kind people, I learned a lot.

I came from a family of 7, my Dad 55 working abroad in Saudi Arabia as Electrician, my Mom 55 whos having small business in our house buy and sell, my older sister May, 35, housewife, my older brother Mark Rueben, 30 working in the Hotel in Manila as IT officer, my younger sister Grace 27, married and have 3 cute children, Selling product online. And My cousin Leniel we consider him as a family member because he grow up and live with us since he was 2 years old. Her mother died and his father can’t take care of them all, he is my mom brother they are 5 siblings and Leniel is the youngest, now he is 18 and preparing for his college.

Before I came here in United Arab Emirates I worked in different private companies in the Philippines, and recently was at Manila International Airport –Airport Police Department as Clerk Processor. And now im working here as Nanny/Housemaid, I taking care 3 Emirati’s children all boys, aged 3, 6 and 8, both parents are working. When they have a school, I started my day by preparing their breakfast and lunchbox for school, preparing the younger boy also for his nursery (changing diaper/ clothes), then i drop them to shools (nursery and grade school) with the car and we have a family driver. When I came back to the house I start my household chores, vacuuming, dusting, mopping the floor, washing the dishes, doing laundry, ironing, and cook our lunch. By 2 pm, im going to pick up them from school, preparing their lunch, tell them to change their clothes, eat, then changing young boy clothes, feed him, then washing the dishes, and the afternoon we go to the park, play with them or to their tennis or swimming class, with their dad sometimes with their mom. Then cooking dinner with their mom at night.
But before that I was taking care babies before, when my younger sister got married and have her own children, I’m the one who helped her, I love her children like my own children too, I took care of then since they were a baby, changed their diapers, feed them, play with them, now her children aged are 5 and 3 all boys here are so cute and adorable, sweet and nice. I love hugging them and making snack for them. That’s why when I came here those two young boys always crying and looking for me, my mom and my sister told me, its hard for me to leave them to but I need for my dreams to be an au pair and have a paid experience here in UAE.

I have a great experience here in UAE, with my Emirati Employer, I meet them because of my friend, she is working to them as tutor to their grade schooler kids, im working in the Manila International Airport Authority at the time when my friend ask me if I want to work abroad and work at home with her boss, then I give it a try. At first it’s really difficult for me, really a big adjustment because of environment and nature of my work that I didn’t do full time before, lots of responsibility and task but since im flexible and determined and I want to learn and experience new things, I did my best to do my duties everyday. My madam is always giving me what she thinks I need, clothes, personal things, even phones, they bring me with them, everywhere they go, staying in the hotels, swimming, eating in the restaurant and still doing my job looking for the children, even if I go out to unwind and have time for myself for a moment max. 4 hours, every week her husband will ask me where I want to go, and he will drop me there, than to ride a taxi, we talked about any topic sometimes if she is not busy at work and we talked like we’re friends too and laught at funny things like about her kids makes funny moments, also if we try to make/cook foods together for the first time but seems not good and her family didn’t like it, we cook together if she is not busy. praise me if I cook good and tell me also if what I make is not good, sometimes she let me decide to what to do or what is good for her children, and let me learn like when Im new to their family I cant cook Arabic foods, and had the moment I burnt the rice because im doing other things inside the house, she always say its ok but I learn from it after, it felt that I’m part of their family, and to be honest I appreciate everything even a little thing they gave to me, treating me like a younger sister and I feel the same way shes like an older sister to me. Even I am experiencing good things with them, it still made me realized and felt like working in the house is really not me, I want to do more outside, learn more, meet new people and talk to them while working, free to do thing that I want to do like before, I want to enhance my skills and passion outside and used what I have learned in the school and use my degree in the future. Its like im not into material things but I really love exploring and learning new things, seeing friends once in a while, making my own schedule plan for myself, go to church and have atleast 1 whole day off per week to do thing what I want to do. I talked to my Madam about my plan applying as an Au Pair and explain it to them that it’s a cultural exchange Program and not totally a work, they supporting me, and even in taking my medical laboratory test,her husband drop me to the medical center and do the laboratory test, they just want me to update them about my status, so that they can also find my replacement too, they don’t want me to go but I know they understand me.

When you ask about my personality, im just a simple woman and daughter, with a big ambitions and want to achieved in life, I like watching Korean drama, watching any movies listening and singing Korean songs/ English/ tagalog song. I’m a happy person, flexible, trustworthy, honest, with sense of humor, I don’t easily to give up to the task that giving to me, I want to learn everything, I do travelling with friends, and we try eat new foods from the place where we have been, took our photos to the place we have been for the first time, we like to do sight seeing and exploring every places in our country, we like to go to the museums, historical places, sometimes we travel 10hrs to go the the place where we want to go to unwind and relax everytime if we feel exhausted at work, we also plan to travel abroad together as a group but due to our busy schedule at work its hard for us make it happen for now, specially now that im here in UAE, and they are in the Philippines, but we working hard to make it happen someday, and also I want to spend my time with my family, I like to cook, and bake pastries too, if im off from my work, I do cook foods for my family, talked with them watching movies together with them, I do want to watch videos about cooking and try to make it at home.

I want to be an Au Pair, to learn to experienced life in Europe specially in Netherlands, learn about their culture, language, foods, and meet new friends and Au pair from other race too. I want to develop my skills and learn something new from the host family that im going to live with. I want also to help you with your everyday activity, like household chores taking care of children. And I want to share my culture and some informations about my country too.
